Frank Lampard has told England’s youngsters “to play without fear” at the World Cup.

Speaking at The Sun Life Stadium in Miami – where the Three Lions trained on Tuesday – the former Chelsea midfielder claimed Roy Hodgson’s squad has the perfect blend of youth and experience.

Lampard said: "For any squad it is important to have a good mix of young and slightly older experienced players.

"You need to let them go, let them play without fear and let them play with the talents that have got them into the squad.”

Lampard, 35, is the oldest player in Hodgson’s 23-man party and says his experience, along with captain Steven Gerrard, 34, and Wayne Rooney, 28, will be vital in helping the younger members of the squad realise their potential in South America.

He added: "Myself, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart have got the most experience and our job is to help them around the hotel and in the dressing room.

“We are a link to the boss and the staff and we obviously have to play well.”

Before they head to Brazil, England face Ecuador on Wednesday and Honduras on Saturday in their final warm-up matches before the real business begins.

Lampard will captain his country against the Ecuadorians, an honour he is proud to have – especially in an emotional week in which he announced he was leaving the Blues after 13 years.

He said: "I am very proud as always. It was very difficult to leave Chelsea after 13 years. I move on, the club moves on.

"After 13-years the club became part of my life. It is difficult but you have to move on and I am concentrated on playing for England. It was a relief to say it."

And as Lampard and his team-mates enter the final stages of their World Cup preparations, he says the squad could not have been better prepared for their opening group match in Manaus against Italy.

He said: "I have played pre-seasons out here in Miami itself. I am very impressed with what Roy and the staff have done - there are no excuses. We all have to adapt.

"It is up to us as individuals and a team to get used to the conditions. The humidity can suck a bit out of your legs but there will be no excuses. We all have to adapt. It is the same for Italy."
