Josh Murphy says he is ready for a “massive” year with Norwich City, as he looks to help fire the Canaries back to the Premier League.

Despite enduring the heartache of relegation, the England U19 international enjoyed the 2013-14 campaign on a personal level as he made his breakthrough to the first team and turned plenty of heads with a series of impressive performances.

Back in September 2013, he captured the headlines after scoring with a stunning strike 10 minutes into his first-team debut, after coming on as a second-half substitute in a League Cup fixture against Watford.

Murphy impressed throughout the 2013-14 campaign

"I’ll look back on the season with mixed emotions, definitely," said Murphy. "I made my debut and played in the Premier League nine times.

“I got 13 appearances all together. So from a personal point of view it’s been a great season – but obviously on a club level it hasn’t been that good with relegation.

“But you have to look at it as an opportunity and maybe it will open doors and create new chances in the Championship – which I’m going relish.”

Norwich were relegated after finishing 18th in the Premier League – failing to win any of their final seven games.

But Murphy, who has appeared for England U19s on 11 occasions – and has also made one appearance for the U18s – says the year ahead is by far the most important of his career.

“This is a massive year for me. I had a taste of the Premier League and I am hungry for more action”

“This is a massive year for me. I had a taste of the Premier League and I am hungry for more action,” he told the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press.

“This season I am just going to, firstly, go and fight for my place and then when I get that I want to stay in the team and show the fans what I can do and hopefully tear up the Championship.

“I feel like I can do a job and the manager does or he wouldn’t have put me in the team.

“If I am given the chance I feel I can prove to myself and the fans I can do the job.

“Rather than people looking at my age I want them to see me scoring goals and getting the fans off their feet and trying to bring success to this club.”
