England Under-21s striker Danny Ings continued his remarkable goalscoring run at the weekend with two goals in Burnley’s win over Millwall in the Championship.

The 21-year-old has been in hot form with the Clarets this season, prompting Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate to select him earlier in the season.

And his brace on Saturday took his current tally to 24 goals for the season with seven of those strikes coming in the last seven games.

"Every game I try and run as much as I can to try and give defenders nightmares," said Ings, who scored twice on his full Under-21s debut against San Marino in November.

"I did that against Millwall [on Saturday] and managed to get a brace.

"I’m on a good run at the moment and I’m going to work as hard as I can to keep that going and improve my all-round game as well."

The England call-up last October was the first time Ings had ever experienced international football and he said at the time it was something he wants more of.

And with his form helping to spearhead Burnley’s charge to the top end of the Championship, he’s likely to be in Southgate’s thoughts for the next game with Wales in March.

“We don’t want to look at the league table, it’s still early doors, we just want to go into every game and do our best,” added the former AFC Bournemouth man.

“I don’t look at any sort of records. We just work hard for each other and get as many goals as we can.

“We’ve got a thing at the training ground where we get told off if we talk about that – I don’t think the lads want to talk about it.

“The lads are so switched on to the job ahead.”

You can see Ings and his England team-mates in action against Wales, when they meet at Derby’s iPro Stadium on Wednesday 5 March. Tickets for the game are priced just £10 for adults and £5 for U18s.
