Unhappy home start for Manchester City as Bristol win

Manchester City Women lost their first ever home fixture of the FA Women's Super League as they fell to defeat to Bristol Academy at the Manchester Regional Arena.

Jasmine Matthews' deflected effort and a second from midfielder Angharad James condemned City to their second defeat in succession.

City had the first chance to break the deadlock in the eighth minute – Toni Duggan spotted Mary Earps off her line but could not lift her effort enough.

Three minutes later, Bristol Academy took a shock lead after a looping corner evaded Andrea Worrall and Matthews poked home.

Jill Scott had a chance to fire in an immediate equaliser but Earps superbly pushed her effort wide.

The hosts were left to rue that miss as James doubled the Vixens lead in the 17th minute following nifty footwork from Laura Del Rio.

Bristol should have scored another as Matthews headed over from close-range.

The Blues started strongly after the break as Steph Houghton had a long-range effort saved and a sweeping move on 58 minutes finished with Krystle Johnston lashing her effort over.

From then on Bristol looked comfortable and almost made it 3-0 in the closing stages when Del Rio hit the post and Worrall saved Natalia Sanchon's follow-up.
