Rampant Canaries fly into FA Youth Cup Fourth Round

Norwich City continued their Youth Cup defence with a 6-1 defeat of Preston

Four goals in eight blistering extra-time minutes propelled reigning FA Youth Cup champions Norwich City into the Fourth Round Proper following a stunning 6-1 win at Preston North End.

Ninety minutes had failed to separate the two sides but the Canaries, who equalised Jack Ryan's 12th minute lob through Carlton Morris' close-range finish, moved through the gears in extra time to clinically dispatch their Lancashire opponents.

Harrison Heath, Rhys Browne, Jamie Eaton-Collins and Morris all netted to propel Norwich into an unassailable 5-1 lead before Ray Grant put the seal on the performance with a sweetly struck long-range effort.

Canaries Under-18 coach Neil Adams was understandably delighted with the outcome but called on his young charges to start games in the manner in which they finished their task in Lancashire.

He said: "I've told them that we have to be starting games like we finished it in extra-time today.

"To sum the game up we weren't good enough for 90 minutes tonight. Obviously in extra-time we got nearer to the standards that we demand as a Category One Premier League club, and the result in the end was very comfortable."

Fulham have also advanced from the Third Round Proper after thrashing west London rivals Queens Park Rangers 4-1.

Emerson Hyndman broke the deadlock with a curled free-kick before Dean O' Halloran extended their lead.

Harly Wise reduced the arrears ten minutes before the break but George Williams re-established Fulham's two-goal advantage shortly afterards, while Jordan Evans added a fourth after the break.

And Sunderland will join Norwich and Fulham in the next phase after defeating Ipswich Town 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Jack Willbye's spectacular 35-yard strike put Ipswich in front, but Lynden Gooch's solo strike brought Sunderland back on level terms in the second period.

Extra time failed to separate the two sides, forcing a penalty shoot-out.

Goalkeeper Maksymilian Stryjek proved to be the hero for Sunderland as he thwarted spot-kicks from Byron Lawrence and Ipswich captain Joe Robinson, allowing Tom Robson to net the decisive penalty to clinch the win.
