David Unsworth has backed his former boss David Moyes to succeed with Manchester United.

The pair worked together when Moyes was in charge at Everton, before taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford this summer.

And with Moyes preparing his side for Sunday's FA Community Shield at Wembley, Unsworth believes he will prove a good appointment for United.

He told FATV: "He's the best coach I've worked for, without a shadow of a doubt.

"Taking on the challenge of being Manchester United manager won't be a problem for David at all.

"He'll be really up for it and will work his socks off and I think he's the right man for the job.”

One of Moyes’ main objectives this season will be to retain the Premier League and The Shield is the new campaign’s curtain-raiser at Wembley.

They face FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic and despite the Latics’ Championship status, Unsworth expects a competitive game.

"The Community Shield, over the years, has really caught the imagination,” he added.

"It's turned into a really competitive match and over the last four, five, six years and there's been lots of goals scored.

"It is the curtain-raiser and teams take it really seriously now.

"There's a little bit of silverware to be had straight away and I know David will be competitive and want to get the Community Shield locked up and in the cabinet.”
