Nathaniel Clyne celebrates his late equaliser at Villa Park

A late equaliser from Nathaniel Clyne earned a point for Southampton as they drew 1-1 with Aston Villa on Monday night.

The England full-back smashed home following a sweet left-hand delivery from Ryan Bertrand with nine minutes remaining at Villa Park.

And it keeps the Saints second in the Premier League, two points ahead of Manchester City and six behind leaders Chelsea.

Fraser Forster was in action at Villa Park

Clyne, who won his first cap for the Three Lions in last weekend's European Qualifying victory over Slovenia and also played for 65 minutes in the win in Scotland, took his goal tally to three for the season.

It cancelled out a strike from Gabriel Agbonlahor just before the half-hour mark as Villa went in search of their first win since September.

Ciaran Clark's long clearance should have been easily dealt with, but England stopper Fraser Forster, who also played in Glasgow last week, rushed out to clear.

Agbonlahor, whose third and most recent international appearance came at Wembley five years ago, beat Forster to the ball and fired into the empty net to open the scoring.

Tom Cleverley also figured for Villa, while ex-England players Darren Bent and Kieran Richardson came on for the home side as they move up to 16th in the top flight.

Former Under-21s midfielder Jack Cork was a late introduction for Ronald Koeman's men, who made it five games without defeat.
