The Adobe Women’s FA Cup resumes this weekend when the second round qualifying takes place.
Here are five things to look out for across the competition.
Entertaining encounters
There was no shortage of drama as Altrincham booked their place in the second round qualifying, beating Macclesfield 6-3 last time out. The nine-goal thriller was finely poised when – having trailed Altrincham 3-0 – Macclesfield pulled it back to 4-3 with around 20 minutes remaining to find an equaliser.
However, after a game which saw one penalty saved and one penalty scored, Altrincham came out on top, with a date in the diary against Atherton Laburnum Rovers this weekend.

History makers
One of this season’s entrants to the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Wigginton Grasshoppers – who were formed at the beginning of last season – made their mark on the competition in their first-ever fixture, beating Consett 3-0 in the first round qualifying, making history in the process.
The Hoppers come up against Wallsend BC at Kirkley Park in the next stage of the competition, looking to take the next step.

Goalscoring boots
Last season’s Mitre Golden Ball winner – Preston North End’s Madison Hadley – is off the mark in 2025-26 for her childhood club. Hadley, who scored 11 goals in 2024-25 to be crowned the Adobe Women’s FA Cup top scorer, bagged a hat-trick in the first round qualifying.
Preston’s 5-0 win over Haslingden saw the club seal their spot in the second round qualifying where they go head-to-head with Poulton Victoria.
First impressions
It was a fairytale start to life as a Park View player for Zara Johnson. After signing for the club on the same day ahead of a first round qualifying clash against Bishop Auckland, Johnson went on to make the scoresheet not once but five times in an emphatic 17-0 victory on home turf.

And Park View and Johnson’s journey in the competition continues with a trip to Stockton Town this weekend.
Rivalries reignited
There are local derbies on the cards in the second round qualifying, including a match-up between Manchester Laces and FC United of Manchester, with Manchester Laces – a club formed in 2021 to create opportunities for women and girls to play football in their local area – making their bow in the competition in the first round qualifying.
Having seen off Northwich Victoria 7-1 last time out, can the Manchester Yellows make it past the next hurdle?
