Derby day

There’s a West Yorkshire derby on the way in the second round as Huddersfield Town host Leeds United as the FA Women’s National League Division One North rivals go head-to-head.

And the two teams have met as recently as last month when Leeds ran out 1-0 winners at the Accu Stadium courtesy of Amy Woodruff’s 85th winner. Just two points separate the sides in the league – with Huddersfield in third and Leeds in fourth – but who will take the bragging rights this weekend?

Among the goals

Leyton Orient’s Sammy Rowland has an impressive 14 goals and counting to her name in this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup so far, netting a hat-trick in the club’s 8-0 victory over Farnham Town in the last round.

Rowland has form in this competition, having won the Golden Ball back in 2023 whilst on the books of Hashtag United, scoring 11 goals – a tally she has already surpassed – and the prolific striker could be on course to become the first player to win the award twice. The O’s take on AFC Bournemouth this weekend.

Goals of the round

There was a total of 246 goals scored during the first round of the competition across 56 games, but perhaps the most eye-catching were scored by Chatham Town’s Ellie Jeffkins. The skipper scored twice from over 40 yards out inside ten minutes in the first half of the club’s tie against AFC Wimbledon.

Chatham travel to Exeter City in the second round proper on Sunday as their FA Cup journey continues.

History makers

A huge weekend is in store for tier five side Ponteland United as they face Altrincham – who compete in tier six – in the second round. Ponteland beat Bolton Wanderers 4-2 on penalties last time out in the competition, having already seen off Nantwich Town and Darlington en-route.

Meanwhile, Altrincham have overcome Macclesfield, Atherton LR, Stockton Town and Penrith in their FA Cup journey, with the Robins dubbing this weekend’s showdown in Northumberland as the ‘biggest game in the club’s history’.

Action-packed ties

Norwich City booked their place in the second round in seven-goal thriller against Stevenage in the first round. Norwich found themselves 2-1 down at the break before fighting back to eventually win 4-3 with a dramatic 96th minute winner sealing victory.

The Canaries make the trip to Lancashire to face Burnley – who themselves secured passage to the next stage of the competition with a 12-0 win against Blackburn Rovers – this weekend.
