Chelsea pair Erin Cuthbert and Catarina Macario reflected on their Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final victory over Manchester United, which completed a remarkable treble for the Blues.
Two goals from Sandy Baltimore either side of a header from Macario sealed a 3-0 win for Sonia Bompastor’s team to add to their trophies in the BWSL and Subway League Cup this term.
“It tops off a brilliant season,” said Cuthbert.
“I'm so proud of the group, a lot of hard work's gone into this. To win in the fashion we did, we were holding on a bit at 1-0 but the second goal puts the game to bed.”
Macario added: “It is a very emotional day, one that we always wanted to win. We wanted to come back here.
“We just won a treble, and it has been a very hard season for us, for me personally. But this is a very special day.
“I think it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play at Wembley and to score brings a lot of emotions for sure. It is the cherry on the cake for the end of the season.
“Playing for Chelsea, we want to win everything. It is a lot of pressure, every time you play in a massive game like, but we have a winning mentality. We have been here before, know what to do to win and that is what we did.”
It means a remarkable first campaign for Bompastor at the helm, and Scottish star Cuthbert paid tribute to the Blues boss for what the team have achieved.
“It's difficult,” she revealed. “There's a lot of change but you just have to embrace it.
“She's a manager, she's a winner, at management and as a player, so you've got to respect that and she's done a brilliant job since she's come in.
“And a treble, what a way to start it! It can't get better from there. Sonia's put a curfew on the past few weeks, so it's now time to party."
