Liverpool were pushed all the way by third-tier Rugby Borough before two late goals sealed their place in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals.

In a true Women's FA Cup match-up, the FA Women’s National League side held their own against their illustrious Women's Super League opponents and the Reds were made to toil.

Rugby were just six minutes from forcing extra time when Marie Höbinger whipped a curling shot into the corner from 25 yards.

Mia Enderby then put a bow on it with a close-range finish in added time, with Liverpool relieved to prevail after a tough match in swirling winds.

Liverpool enjoyed the majority of possession but struggled to create clear chances, despite hitting the woodwork through Roman Haug and Leanne Kiernan, while Rugby were dangerous on the break.

However, Liverpool’s bid to win the Women's FA Cup for the first time remains intact and they will be in Tuesday’s quarter-final draw.

The Reds will be joined by some of the biggest and the best, including defending champions Manchester United, who beat Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday night.

On Sunday, their city rivals Manchester City eased past Leicester City, with goals from Leila Ouahabi, Kerolin, and Khadija Shaw helping them to a 3-1 win.

Ouahabi bagged her first of the season from close range after Kerolin, Jill Roord and Mary Fowler had efforts saved, before Kerolin grabbed her first City goal with a deflected effort.

Shaw scored City’s third with an excellent header, while Nelly Las scored a consolation for Leicester.

Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea came from a goal down to beat Everton 4-1 at Kingsmeadow.

Everton took a 17th-minute lead through Sara Holmgaard’s cross into the box from a corner that went all the way in.

But Chelsea were unruffled, with Catarina Macario’s penalty and Mayra Ramirez’s neat lob putting them 2-1 up at the break. Maika Hamano then out daylight between the teams 20 minutes from time before Sandy Baltimore wrapped up victory from the spot in additional time.

Record 14-time winners Arsenal also breezed through to the last eight with a 2-0 home win against Women's Championship club London City Lionesses, with Laia Codina and Stina Blackstenius on the scoresheet.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace reached their first-ever Women's FA Cup quarter-final thanks to a 2-0 home win against Newcastle United.

The Londoners had to wait until the 81st-minute for a breakthrough, as Ashleigh Weerden slid in to convert a low cross before Abbie Larkin’s deflected shot sealed the victory.

Sunderland will also represent the Championship in the last eight after two first-half goals in a 2-0 win against Portsmouth.

Jenna Dear and Emily Scarr scored the goals, while Scarlett Williams was sent off for Portsmouth two minutes from time.
