An independent Appeal Board has reduced a sanction which was imposed on Southampton for misconduct in relation to crowd control at its EFL Championship fixture against West Bromwich Albion on Friday 17 May 2024.
The FA alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don’t behave in an improper, threatening or provocative way; and/or throw missiles or other potentially harmful or dangerous objects towards the pitch; and/or commit any form of pitch incursion.
Southampton admitted to this charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed a £75,000 fine and a warning. However, the club appealed against the amount of the fine, and the independent Appeal Board subsequently reduced this to £45,000.
The written reasons of both the independent Regulatory Commission and subsequent independent Appeal Board can be found below.
