Aston Villa FC and Brentford FC fined

Aston Villa and Brentford have been fined £180,000 and £175,000 respectively for two mass confrontations that took place during their Premier League game on Sunday 17 December 2023. 

Aston Villa admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 85th minute. The club also admitted that they failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way during the 98th minute. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed a £225,000 fine on Aston Villa and its written reasons can be seen below. Aston Villa subsequently appealed against this sanction, which an independent Appeal Board upheld and reduced the club’s fine to £180,000, and its written reasons are below. 

Brentford admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 85th minute. The club also admitted that they failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way during the 98th minute. The independent Regulatory Commission imposed the £175,000 fine on Brentford and its written reasons are available below.
