England withdraw from UEFA Futsal EURO 2022 qualifying stage

The Futsal Lions were due to travel to North Macedonia next week

We can confirm that England will not travel to North Macedonia for next week's UEFA Futsal EURO play-off matches.

An FA spokesperson said: "Player and staff safety is our primary concern across all England teams and it remains essential that we continue to follow UK Government advice and our own COVID Advisory Group England (CAGE) guidelines for our teams at both elite and non-elite level.

"Having undertaken a full and thorough risk assessment, the FA has regrettably decided to withdraw the England Futsal team from the UEFA Futsal EURO play-off games on 8 and 9 November in North Macedonia.

"We have taken into consideration the potential COVID quarantine requirements in North Macedonia, in the event of a positive test from one or more of our players or staff. We have also looked closely at the UK Government’s advice around non-essential international travel at this time, as well as recognising the potential changes to COVID alert levels in the UK.

"We are very disappointed for the players and the staff who were looking forward to the tournament, however the decision not to participate has been made after careful consideration and is solely based on the safety and wellbeing of all those involved."
