More than 25 years have passed since Ronny Rosenthal scored a hat-trick for Tottenham Hotspur in their 6-2 win over Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round.
Many will remember Rosenthal from his Liverpool days, winning the First Division title and FA Cup with the Reds but the Israeli forward actually played more games for Spurs.
Spurs, then led by Gerry Francis, were enduring stuttering league form but went on a run in the 1994-95 FA Cup that took them all the way to the semi-finals.
And it was on this run that Rosenthal produced his most memorable performance in white as his left boot helped Spurs complete an incredible fifth round replay comeback.
Now Spurs are in need of a new hero to send them through to the fifth round, after Southampton scored late to force a fourth round replay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night.
Following a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane, Rosenthal looked on from the bench as Saints went 2-0 up early on courtesy of goals from Neil Shipperley and Matt Le Tissier.
In desperate need of goals, Francis turned to his new signing and brought him on just before half time.
By the 59th minute Rosenthal had scored twice, including one 25-yard beauty, to force extra time and added another long-ranger to put Spurs ahead 11 minutes into the first half of extra.
Teddy Sheringham, Nicky Barmby and Darren Anderton all got in on the action after that to give the scoreline an emphatic complexion but it was Rosenthal who got the important goals - ones he won't forget in a hurry either.
“I'm proud to say I scored quite a few goals in my career, but to hit three left footers that night – two from long range – was something I will never forget," he recalled last year.
“I can remember being absolutely thrilled at the end having played my part in changing the Cup tie and the fact it also pitted us in a sixth round tie with my old club Liverpool was something special too.
“But my abiding memory is being physically shattered having had such little game time!”
Tottenham went on to beat Rosenthal’s former club, Liverpool, in the sixth round of the competition before losing to eventual winners Everton by 4-1 in the semi-final at Elland Road.
