England’s blind team fell to a 3-0 defeat against current world and Paralympic champions Brazil in their second group game at the World Championships.
In a very high quality fixture, the Three Lions matched Brazil step-for-step for the first 15 minutes of the match.
However, after a fabulous save from Dan James, Brazil were first to the ball and finished clinically to leave the score 1-0 at half time.
As the second half began, England appeared on top and were really pushing for an equaliser with Brazil often denied by more saves from James or some expert defending.
England had several great chances of their own and there was no doubt that the Three Lions had Brazil worried.
But as England pushed for an equaliser, Brazil broke quickly after a goal-kick was awarded rather than a corner, with the ball superbly dispatched in to the back of the net for 2-0.
A quick third followed from a lightening break and even though England carried on fighting hard, the game finished 3-0 to Brazil.
The players can take a lot of credit from this performance whilst also learning from Brazil’s clinical finishing in front of goal which represented the key difference between the squads.
England now head into their final group game with Costa Rica and can still qualify for the knockout round with a win.
