England Under-19s suffered their first defeat of their Euro Finals campaign against a strong Netherlands side at Windsor Park.

Goals at either end of the opening 45 minutes proved the difference at Northern Ireland's national stadium and secured the Dutch’s place in the last four.

Mo Marley made one change to the side that saw off Italy in their opener in Lurgan on Tuesday afternoon – Zoe Cross coming into the starting XI.

There was a place on the bench for Chelsea’s Isabella Sibley, who linked up with the squad on Thursday following forward Georgia Stanway’s unfortunate withdrawal through injury.

The Oranje started strongly and skipper Grace Fisk demonstrated perfect positional awareness to clear a dangerous cross.
Jessica Torney’s outfit took the lead soon after, with Aniek Nouwen heading home a corner.

And it could have been two moments later, as patient Dutch build-up fed winger Ashleigh Weerden, who steered an effort over Sandy MacIver’s crossbar.

Following her heroics at Mourneview Park in midweek, Georgia Allen came close to netting her third goal of the tournament with her side’s first of the evening, fashioned by Chloe Kelly’s high pressing, but just lacked the necessary power to trouble Lize Kop between the sticks.

At the other end, Nurija van Schoonhoven was picked out following a strong run but failed to hit the target.

But Holland finished the opening 45 minutes strongly as Joëlle Smits showed some good close-control in the penalty box, and Fisk once more produced a crucial block.

They weren’t to be denied what ultimately proved to be a crucial second on the stroke of half time though as Smits played was through and applied a calm finish.

Marley’s outfit enjoyed some strong spells of possession in the early stages of the second period but could not find a way past a stubborn Dutch backline.

For Holland, Nouwen and Nadine Noordam both tried their luck from distance, their attempts edging wide and over the target respectively.

Rinsola Babajide, on the left side for England, was unfortunate to see her dangerous cross just evade the recently-introduced Niamh Charles at the far post.

18-year-old Charles was at the forefront of a clever move which carved open the Dutch defence, as a one-two between Ellie Brazil and Charles ended with the latter striking inches wide.

Allen continued to look the most likely outlet, though, with her crisp shot well held after being played through by Babajide.
The result means the Young Lionesses sit third in Group B, three points behind leaders Netherlands and level on points with France, albeit with an inferior goal difference.

They head north to the Ballymena Showgrounds to take on Les Bleues in the final group fixture on Monday.
