Kortney Hause: Disappointment will drive me to success

Kortney Hause has made six U20s appearances

Kortney Hause says he will use his end-of-season disappointment to help motivate him – starting at the Toulon Tournament with England Under-20s.

The Wolves defender suffered the heartache of missing out on the Championship play-offs on goal difference.

But the London-born defender says dealing with such disappointments will make him a stronger person and player.

“It just makes me more hungry going into next season,” he told TheFA.com.

“We did so well as a team – a young team as well – and just to miss out on goal difference by five goals, it’s very frustrating.

Kortney Hause says Aidy Boothroyd has created a great atmosphere among the U20s team

“We’ve nearly got there. Thankfully we get given another opportunity next season.

“We’ll have to prepare right and make sure we start next season how we finished this one – and try and maintain that momentum.”

Although his club season is over, Hause is hoping to be included in Aidy Boothroyd’s England U20s squad to travel to France for the annual Toulon Tournament.

The 19-year-old has been a regular for the Young Lions throughout the campaign, and has won six caps since making his debut against Germany in October 2014.

“Being selected for England was very pleasing for myself and my family,” he recalled.

“It’s something I’d wanted for a long time throughout my youth career. So to get the call up made me very happy.”

England Under-20s are have not lost since Aidy Boothroyd took over

Hause, a latecomer to the international scene after being overlooked throughout the younger age groups, said he never lost faith.

“I was always confident I would get the call up eventually,” he said.

“I knew I had to focus on myself and my club football and these things look after themselves.

"If you’re doing well for a club from a young age you’re always going to get seen.

He continued: “When I did meet up with the group Aidy [Boothroyd] and the boys made me feel very welcome and I enjoyed every minute of it.

“If selected it’s a great opportunity to test myself against big nations from world football”

"I’ve been away with them three times now, and every one has been enjoyable. We’ve done well as a team as well.

“We’re unbeaten so far under Aidy and that makes for an even better atmosphere within the group.”

England face China, Ivory Coast, Mexico and Morocco in the Toulon Tournament – which gets under way on 28 May.

And Hause says that after recent positive experiences against high profile opposition, he cannot wait to pit his wits against more teams from around the world.

“If selected it’s a great opportunity to test myself against big nations from world football,” he added.

“Having that experience from playing against the likes of Germany, Holland and Mexico has been fantastic for us all.

"It’s helped up prepare for Toulon as we know the sort of level of opposition we’ll be facing. But we’re a good team with a great team spirit.

“We’ve got a lot of really promising players and it’s a pleasure to play alongside them.”
