England U16s squad named for Montaigu Tournament

England Under-16s will head to western France at the end of March to compete in the annual Montaigu Tournament.

Head coach Steve Cooper has named an 18-man squad for the trip, during which the Young Lions will face four games with Mexico, Turkey and Ivory Coast providing the opposition in the first three matches in Group B.

With Group A consisting of France, Belgium, Morocco and Brazil, each team will then play a final game against the nation who finish in the corresponding ranking in the opposite group.

Up first for England is Mexico on Tuesday 31 March, before Turkey are the second opponents on Thursday 2 April. The group is rounded off on Saturday 4 April when Ivory Coast are the opposition and then the final game against a Group A nation will be held on Monday 6 April.

These matches follow on from the UEFA Development Tournament which was held at St. George’s Park in February, when England played Switzerland (2-3), Slovakia (0-0, 4-3 win on penalties) and France (1-1, 4-3 win on penalties).

The squad will meet at St. George's Park to begin their preparations on Friday 27 March, before heading to France two days later.

Goalkeepers: Jared Thompson (Chelsea), Taye Ashby-Hammond (Fulham). 

Defenders:  Tolaji Bola (Arsenal), Dujon Sterling (Chelsea), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea), Ed Francis (Manchester City), Jaden Brown (Tottenham Hotspur), Japhet Tanganga (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Charlie Gilmour (Arsenal), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town), Sadou Diallo (Manchester City), Callum Slattery (Southampton). 

Forwards: Reiss Nelson (Arsenal), Martell Taylor-Crossdale (Chelsea), Keanan Bennetts (Tottenham Hotspur), Jonathan Leko (West Bromwich Albion), Niall Ennis (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
