Scott Laird will remember the moment he scored against Manchester United for the rest of his life, but the Preston star has another reason to celebrate.
Laird revealed that the goal did not only earn him the adulation of over 20,000 Preston fans inside Deepdale on Monday evening, but also a bonus £1 gift – from his grandmother.
And the 26-year-old said it dates back to a family tradition from his childhood.
"Every time we scored as kids, she used to give me and my brothers a pound," he told BBC Somerset.
"Even though I'm 26 now, I still carry that tradition on."
Despite leading for 20 second-half minutes against the eleven-time FA Cup winners, Preston were eventually pegged back after goals from Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney gave Manchester United a 3-1 victory.
But left-back Laird said that, despite the magnitude of the strike, his grandmother refused to break tradition and up the stakes.
“She was the first person I rang and I said 'I want that pound'”

"She was the first person I rang and I said 'I want that pound'," he added.
"I tried saying I wanted a bit more because it was against Manchester United, but she says that wasn't in the contract.
"It's something I'll be going on with until the end of my career."
Fortunately for Grandmother Laird's bank balance, Scott has not been too prolific in front of goal since making his professional bow in 2007.
The goal at Deepdale was just his second of the season, and the 26th of his professional career.
She may be hoping he does not switch positions over the coming years...
