Northwich Victoria were denied an historic victory after Northampton staged a late comeback and scored a treble in the final ten minutes to win 3-2 in the FA Cup second round.

Goals from Jimmy Ball and Richard Bennett set Northwich up for a memorable triumph but Sam Hoskins’ late strike set up a tense finish before Jason Taylor netted and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a dramatic winner.

There are 92 places between the two sides but that did not faze Northwich, who took the lead after 44 minutes at Sixfields.

A corner into the box was poorly cleared by the hosts and Ball was on hand to hit a scuffed effort that trickled past Adam Smith.

And after 63 minutes it was two as David Buchanan was dispossessed by Brian Summerskill whose effort cannoned off the crossbar and into the path of Bennett, who netted his 13th of the season.

Northampton were not finished though and Hoskins levelled after 83 minutes before Taylor headed the equaliser and Calvert-Lewin’s header won it.

Non-league Eastleigh have made it to the third round for the first time in their history as they picked up a 2-0 away win over Stourbridge.

The opener came just before the hour mark as, moments after Stourbridge almost took the lead, James Constable got himself on the end of Josh Payne’s delivery and poked home.

The win was then wrapped up by Payne after 77 minutes as he found himself unmarked and fired home from Ben Strevens’ cross – though Karl Hawley’s missed penalty late on could have got Stourbridge back in the game.

There was also late drama at the Proact Stadium where it looked like Walsall were going to progress following Jason Demetriou’s strike after 19 minutes.

But an equaliser after 89 minutes from Lee Novak sent the Chesterfield fans into raptures as the hosts stole a 1-1 draw.

At the Den, Michael Harriman was the hero for Wycombe Wanderers as he popped up four minutes into injury time to send his side through against Millwall.

Ben Thompson had levelled things for the hosts after Paul Hayes put Wycombe in front after 50 minutes but Harriman got himself on the end of Aaron Pierre’s cross for a last-gasp triumph.

The day’s other matches all finished 1-0 with Adam McGurk putting Portsmouth through at home to Accrington Stanley while Ben Tozer scored in the 86th minute to hand Yeovil a late win over Stevenage.
