Goals galore in Emirates FA Cup on Sunday

Sunday 30 Aug 2015
This weekend's FA Cup fixtures were completed on Sunday afternoon
The magic of the Emirates FA Cup was certainly alive at Munford Road as Thetford Town and Bury Town scored eight goals between them in a remarkable opening 36 minutes, as the latter progressed to the First Round Qualifying with a 5-3 win.

Noel Aitkens, Ollie Hughes, Bradley Barber and Tevan Allen helped Bury race to a 4-0 lead after just 12 minutes.

But Oliver Standley and Luke Bailey helped Thurlow Nunn Premier side Thetford stage a comeback as they pulled it back to 4-2 before there was even 20 minutes on the clock.

However, Remi Garrett regained the three-goal advantage for his side before Shaun Hunsden added his name to the scorers.

After an incredible start, it was equally surprising that there were to be no other goals in the remaining 54 minutes as the Ryman Division One North side set up a tie with Cockfosters or Tower Hamlets, who play their replay on Monday.

Fellow Ryman Division One North club Carshalton Athletic made sure they remained in the pot by coming from behind to beat Erith and Belvedere.

The Southern Counties East team took the lead through Goldy Capela and were ahead at the break.

But then Dan Summers curled in a free-kick from 20 yards and Tommy Bradford scored an overhead kick from close range in a matter of minutes to set up a trip to Pagham.

A Thurlow Nunn Premier side did get the better of Ryman Premier Division One North opposition on Sunday though, as Ipswich Wanderers set up a home tie against former FA Cup giant-killers Canvey Island after beating Barkingside 2-1.

Wanderers will now face Canvey, who beat Northampton Town and Wigan Athletic en route to the Third Round in 2001 whilst still an Isthmian League side.

Ipswich’s progression was secured thanks to first-half goals by Ross Myhill and Billy Holland. Myhill opened the scoring just before the half an hour mark when he followed up Dan Tredray’s blocked shot.

Holland then doubled their advantage seven minutes later when he stooped to head home.

The Preliminary Round of The FA Cup took place this weekend

Barkingside pulled one back when Jonathan Adebayo curled a shot in from the edge of the area but Ipswich held on to progress.

Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Clitheroe thumped Pickering Town of the Northern Counties East Premier 5-1 to reach the First Round Qualifying  – making it 17 goals in five games in the process.

Scott Harries opened the scoring and Scott Bakkor and Jack Lynch found the net in first-half injury-time to send their team into the interval 3-0 up.

Louis Mayers then scored twice in the final ten minutes, either side of Ryan Cooper’s consolation.

Horsham YMCA, of the Macron Store Southern Combination Premier, also booked their spot with a 4-2 win at Southern Counties East side Erith Town.

Goals from Horsham’s Dave Brown and Erith’s Tom Garrick sent the teams into the break level before Dan Evans, Matt Crane and Brown made it 4-1, with Garrick grabbing a second with 11 minutes remaining.

Beaconsfield SYCOB secured their place in the next round with a 3-0 win over Raunds Town of the United Counties Division One.

New signing Jack Read was among the goalscorers for the Southern League Division One Central club, as he found the net with his first touch.

Meanwhile Essex Senior League’s Stansted held Ryman Premier club Tilbury to a 0-0 draw, with the teams set to go again on Tuesday night.
