Goals from Roy Turnham and Robin Williams put the hosts in control at half time, a lead they deserved after a dominant first-half performance and preserved until the final whistle.

Dan English nearly opened the scoring inside 30 seconds, shooting wide after a skilful dribble into the box.

And then skipper Keryn Seal directed a shot well wide in the tenth minute as Germany were forced to defend almost constantly.

The breakthrough arrived in the 16th minute though, with Williams making a big impact after going on as a substitute seconds earlier.

His corner found Turnham, who weaved past three defenders before burying a shot inside the bottom left corner – his third goal of the tournament.

Less than two minutes later, Williams was on the scoresheet himself, firing in his sixth goal in three games after another corner on the right.

Germany's Lukas Smirek tried his luck with two shots, one of which was wide, while the other drew a low save from Dan James and English miscued after a lovely run before smashing one over the bar just before the break.

But the outstanding Williams continued to cause problems early in the second half, drawing two saves from Enrico Goebel and he also went down in the box under a challenge, but nothing was given.

Alexander Fangmann’s penalty for Germany with just over three minutes left was well saved by James after England had been penalised for committing four team fouls.

English forced Goebel into a save with his legs, but the hosts had done enough to secure their third win of the competition without conceding ahead of Wednesday’s final group game against Turkey.

The only disappointment was the loss of Turnham to injury with six minutes remaining.
