Roy Hodgson’s team need Italy to beat Costa Rica on Friday and Uruguay on Tuesday and then require a big victory over the Central American side in order to have any hope of making the last 16.
And Hart said: “We all want to be the other side of that line. In terms of giving everything and committing our lives to this tournament – there is obviously more we could have done and we could have played better – but I think we have left it out on the pitch.
“We are obviously relying on other people and no one wants to rely on other people. We want to rely on ourselves but it is out of our hands at the moment.
“For now we will wait and see what happens on Friday but we have got another game left and it’s a game that we are going to try and win.”
He added: “We are a passionate group of players who are immensely proud to play for our country at a World Cup and we have come so close in two games and have just not got over the line.”
