Start your journey through coaching with a COACH Bursary

Monday 02 Jun 2014
You too could kick off a career in coaching with a COACH bursary
The list of black footballers who have contributed significantly to English football history is extensive.

The number of those who have successfully progressed into coaching and management however has been minimal.

The FA will lead on the running of the project overseen by a strategy group made up of representatives from the football authorities. The COACH bursary programme is open to male and female coaches aspiring to further their coaching aspirations.

Funding has been made available by the football authorities into one bursary fund to enable applicants to gain coaching qualifications and coaching experience with opportunities to observe top coaches and to benefit from mentoring.

Selection

• COACH operates an open application process and a panel made up of the funding bodies will select applicants against the criteria to the programme

• Applications are restricted to individuals from the Black, Asian Minority ethnic (BAME) communities

Placements

• Successful applicants will be placed for all or part of the period with participating Premiership and Football League Clubs Academies and Centres of Excellence. Other channels may also be identified by The FA as a being appropriate for the applicant and the qualification programme which is being funded.

Applicants will need to provide evidence that they are involved in coaching at an appropriate level, give a commitment of at least one season, complete all aspects of the relevant coaching qualification and coaching placement, work as directed and guided by The FA and the Club, make a contribution to their overall bursary costs.

The bursary programme is not about giving people coaching jobs. It is about providing an opportunity for some people from under-represented groups to achieve the qualifications and experience to challenge for coaching jobs that they would not previously have been able to do.
