Delph is in his sixth season at Villa Park and was brought back into the England set-up by Roy Hodgson four years after the last of his four appearances for the Under-21s.

He was given his first taste of senior international football in England’s opening match of the current season, substituting for Jack Wilshere in the Wembley friendly against the Norwegians.

He played well, putting in some timely tackles and earning a starting berth against Switzerland in the European Qualifier in Basel just five days later.

Delph picked up his third cap in another European Qualifier, against Estonia in Tallinn, and has established his place in the Three Lions squad.

Injury in October kept him out of the final two games of the year, but he returned to action for the Villans in last week's encounter with West Brom.
