Luke Shaw was just 18 years old when he made his England senior debut this year and he went on to feature four times for Roy Hodgson's men.
Shaw had been impressing in the Premier League for Southampton, but was surprised when the phone call came from Hodgson as the Three Lions prepared to face Denmark in a World Cup warm-up game.
“It’s a very proud day,” said Shaw when he found out he was in the senior squad.
“I still can’t actually believe it’s happened. For me to be 18 and to get called into the senior England team is unbelievable.
“I was always thinking that I’d get an Under-21 call-up today, so to get a senior call-up is unbelievable and I am still shocked."
It became even better for the young left-back as he replaced England legend Ashley Cole at half-time in the 1-0 win against the Danes.
Then, in May, he was named in Hodgson's squad for Brazil ahead of the Chelsea defender. He figured in the friendly against Ecuador in Miami, then in the World Cup group game against Costa Rica.
Injury at the start of this season, shortly after he joined Manchester United from the Saints, kept him out of action but he returned to the Three Lions set-up in October.
This time, though, he was with the Under-21s and played in both Euro 2015 play-off matches against Croatia, helping Gareth Southgate's Young Lions reach the Finals.
He re-joined the senior squad for the last get-together of the year and played in Glasgow as England beat the Auld Enemy 3-1.
