Newcastle United face an exciting Tyne-Wear clash with rivals Sunderland following their 2-1 win at Barnsley. Two goals from England U17 striker Adam Armstrong in the second half were enough to defeat the Tykes, who notched a consolation strike through Jak Alton.
Elsewhere, Bristol Rovers dramatically exited The Youth Cup following an extra-time defeat to Crewe Alexandra. Rovers were in control in the first half and took a deserved lead through Laurent Davis-Wilson.
But the Alex proved their resilience and took the tie to extra-time when Callum Saunders equalised ten minutes before the whistle. Saunders completed the turnaround in the 100th minute when he slotted past Kieran Preston to secure a 2-1 win.
Birmingham City were indebted to Kyle McFarlane, whose spectacular strike in 81st minute was enough to beat Cheltenham Town 2-1 and set up a Fourth Round Proper tie at Everton.
Cheltenham took the lead when Harry Williams penalty was saved by Callum Preston, but the midfielder reacted quickest to tap home. But Blues levelled before the break when a long range shot deflected off Nat Kelly and past goalkeeper Harvey Rivers. With ten minutes remaining, McFarlane secured the comeback when his 25-yard effort left Rivers with no chance and sent City home with an impressive win.
Millwall progressed to the next round with a comfortable 3-0 win over Bradford City at Valley Parade. Bradford's loss, their first of the season, ended a 16-game unbeaten run as the young Lions secured a home tie with Sheffield United.
Alfie Pavey's first-half goal, along with strikes from John-Prince Rylah and Fred Onyedinma after the restart, secured their path to the next round, although captain Sid Nelson was sent off with eight minutes to go.
Nottingham Forest's clash with Charlton Athletic was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, with a rearranged date yet to be announced.
