FA Learning Medical & Sports Science Courses

In conjunction with FA Learning, The FA Sports Medicine & Sports Science Department at St George’s Park will be a hub for the education of the next generation of sports medicine and sports science clinicians in football. Education and training is co-ordinated for personnel at all levels of football.

The Football Association Sports Medicine & Sports Science Department is responsible for the medical and sports science education, training and co-ordination of courses for personnel representing over 43,000 affiliated amateur, youth, semi-professional and professional clubs (over 60,000 teams).

The Football Association Sports Medicine & Sports Science Department organises annual FA Sports Medicine & Sports Science Conferences for personnel attached to FA affiliated clubs.

Through FA Learning the following courses are available for first aid and medical personnel at all levels of football:

First Aid For Sport Course
To enable you to recognise and manage common injuries sustained in football and other sports and administer immediate "Non-Emergency" first aid care. Click here for more details.

The FA Basic Treatment and Management of Injuries Course
To enable you to recognise and differentiate major from minor injury and the ability to offer basic treatment and injury management advice to a player who has sustained a major injury when playing football. Click here for more details.

The FA Intermediate Treatment and Management of Injuries Course
The Intermediate Course offers those who have successfully attended a Basic Course the opportunity to expand their knowledge further than a Basic Level. The Intermediate Course will also act as a 'stepping stone' to ensure knowledge and skills for those who wish to enroll on The FA Diploma Course in the Treatment and Management of Injury. The FA Diploma in the Treatment and Management of Injuries Course
The Diploma course is open to those who have completed Intermediate course. It covers treatment of acute injuries to planning and progression of rehabilitation. It is an ideal course for physiotherapists, osteopaths, sports therapists and sports rehabilitators who wish to gain football specific injury management knowledge. Click here for more details.

Refresher Crowd Doctors Course
It is recommended that Crowd Doctors attend this course to refresh their skills at least once every three years. Click here for more details.

FA Fitness Trainers Award
This course aims to educate and train candidates to deliver safe and effective football specific fitness programmes for teams and individuals. It’s for prospective Fitness Trainers and those currently with the responsibility of football fitness of registered players (including Centres of Excellence, Football Academies, Professional Players) in the FA Premier League and Football League. Online courses:

Online Fitness in Football Level One
FA Learning's first fitness based online qualification. The course is designed to make sure all coaches, players, parents and other interested participants have the skills and understanding to ensure they can maximise their fitness and enjoyment of the game.

Online Psychology for Football Level One
FA Learning's first online qualification has now been running for over 5 years. The course is designed to help coaches and parents to understand the developmental needs of young players as well as how different children learn key football skills and what motivates them to continue playing. This course leads into the National Psychology Courses (more information here).
