BIO
The attacking midfielder was first called up to the senior squad in October 2020, when he was named in Gareth Southgate's list for games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.
After some impressive displays for Leicester City in the early stages of the 2020-21 campaign and on the back of a strong showing for Brendan Rodgers' team in the previous season, his form was quickly recognised by Southgate who'd previously seen Barnes in action for the MU20s and MU21s.
Despite being born in Burnley, where his father Paul was a striker for the Turf Moor club, Barnes grew up in Leicestershire where he excelled in local grassroots football before joining the Foxes' academy.
And his first taste of international football heralded a medal as he was a part of the 2017 squad who won the Maurice Revello Tournament in Toulon, where his performances really caught the eye.
From there, he progressed into the MU21s squad and was also making a name for himself on the domestic scene after an impressive loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.
