IT’S SHARP-SHOOTERS SHEFFIELD AGAIN!

There was no stopping Sheffield in 2013-14, the South Yorkshire side not just following their title triumph in the previous campaign by emphatically winning the Northern Division again but also completing the double with a 6-2 thumping of Cardiff City in the League Cup final. 

Goals were Sheffield’s game throughout the season - Helen Mitchell’s team averaged almost four per game in the league and finished with a colossal goal difference of 59.

Spearheaded by prolific scorer Jodie Michalska and setting their marker with a 7-0 rout of Blackburn Rovers in their second outing of the campaign, they went on to record 7-1 wins against both Newcastle United and Stoke City, 6-2 against Leeds United and 5-0 against both Newcastle and Preston North End.

Preston were to finish the season in the runners-up spot, but they were a massive 16 points behind a Sheffield side which was simply too good for everyone else in the 11-club division.

At the other end of the table bottom team Leeds United were relegated to Northern Division One, newly created for 2014/15 along with Midlands Division One, South East Division One and South West Division One as the league expanded to six regional divisions.

With the Northern Division itself expanding from 11 to 12 teams, second-bottom Newcastle were spared relegation while the clubs joining the division would be Coventry City - who were being switched from the Southern Division after winning it - and Huddersfield Town, promoted from the Northern Combination.
