Late goals by Rachel Yankey and Marieanne Spacey gave Arsenal a comeback victory that saw them lift the FA Women’s Premier League Cup for the fifth time in the trophy’s eight-year history.

Premier League champions Everton, close to home at Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park, took the lead after just 10 minutes when defender Tina Mason headed home a Karen Burke corner.

The Gunner hit back strongly and equalised eight minutes later, midfielder Ciara Grant latching on to a Clare Wheatley cross to score from close range.

Chances went begging before and after half time as play swung from end to end before striker Spacey went mighty close with a 70th minute free-kick that cannoned off the Everton crossbar.

The stalemate was finally broken with 16 minutes remaining, left winger Yankey breaking through the Toffees defence to guide a 12-yard shot into the net.

Everton pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but the game was put beyond them when Spacey neatly chipped in the victory clincher two minutes into added time.
