Goalkeepers

JACK BUTLAND
Age 19
Club: Birmingham City
Position: Goalkeeper
Caps: 6 (England U21s)
Profile: Jack represented England at four different age levels before becoming a regular for the Under-21s last season. He made his debut in the season’s opener against Azerbaijan, keeping a clean sheet, and only missed one of the seven matches played. He was called into England’s Euro 2012 squad at the end of a campaign in which he played League 2 football with Cheltenham.

JASON STEELE
Age 21
Club: Middlesbrough
Position: Goalkeeper
Caps: 1 (England U21s)
Profile: Jason has kept goal for England’s U16s, U17s and U19s. He had clocked up 27 appearances in total before making an eventful debut for the Under-21s in a friendly against Germany in 2010. He came on as a substitute for Scott Loach and was red-carded 13 minutes later. Jason was on loan at Northampton before becoming Boro’s first choice in 2010-11 with 35 Championship starts.

RYAN BERTRAND
Age 22
Club: Chelsea
Position: Defender
Caps: 16 (England U21s)
Profile: Ryan had three seasons with the Under-21s after making his bow as a substitute in a friendly against Czech Republic at Bramall Lane in 2008. He was an ever-present in the Euro 2011 Finals in Denmark. As a Chelsea player he had loan spells with clubs like Norwich and Reading but made his mark with the Blues last season, featuring in the Champions League Final in Munich.

STEVEN CAULKER
Age 20
Club: Tottenham Hotspur
Position: Defender
Caps: 4 (England U21s)
Profile: Steven is eligible to play for Scotland through his grandmother but made eleven appearances for England at U19 level before Stuart Pearce included him as a substitute for the Under-21s against Germany in 2010. He collected three more caps last season and scored in the 4-0 win against the Belgians here at the Riverside in February. He played on loan at Swansea City last season.

CRAIG DAWSON
Age 22
Club: West Bromwich Albion
Position: Defender
Caps: 7 (England U21s)
Profile: Craig started with Rochdale, clocking up 42 League 2 appearances in 2009-10 and earning a place in the PFA’s Team of the Year. He signed for WBA but remained on loan at the Dale. He had a great start with the Under-21s, scoring twice on his debut as Azerbaijan were put to the sword last September, and ended the season with an impressive four goals in his seven internationals.

MICAH RICHARDS
Age 24
Club: Manchester City
Position: Defender
Caps: 13 (England)
Profile: In November 2006, during his second season as a City first-teamer, Micah became England’s youngest ever defender at 18 years 144 days in a friendly against Holland. In the following season he started six of England’s first seven internationals and scored against Israel at Wembley. As a key player for City he won The FA Cup in 2011 and picked up a Premier League medal last season.

NEIL TAYLOR
Age 23
Club: Swansea City
Position: Defender
Caps: 9 (Wales)
Profile: Neil represented Wales at U17, U19 and Under-21 levels before being chosen for the senior team against Croatia in 2010. He started with Manchester City but had moved to Wrexham by the age of 16 and made 75 appearances, including 26 in the Football League, for the north Wales club. He was almost an ever-present for Swansea in last season’s Premier League campaign.

JAMES TOMKINS

Position: Defender

Profile: James is West Ham through and through after joining the club’s youth set-up at the age of seven. A first-teamer for five years now, he was a Championship play-off winner at Wembley two months ago. He represented England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels before winning his first cap for the Under-21s in a pre-Euro 2009 friendly against Azerbaijan at Milton Keynes.

Midfielders

JOE ALLEN
Age 22
Club: Swansea City
Position: Midfielder
Caps: 8 (Wales)
Profile: Joe won his first senior cap as a substitute in a friendly against Estonia in 2009. He has also represented Wales at Under-21, U19 and U17s levels. A great favourite with Swans fans, he has been with the club since the age of nine. He became established in the first team in their promotion season of 2010-11 and then scored four times in 36 Premier League appearances.

TOM CLEVERLEY
Age 22
Club: Manchester United
Position: Midfielder
Caps: 16 (England U21s)
Profile: Tom had two seasons with Stuart Pearce’s Under-21s, making his debut as a substitute against Macedonia in Prilep in 2009 and then starting the next ten internationals. He was called into the senior squad for the Holland friendly at Wembley in August of last year but the match was unfortunately cancelled. Days earlier he had won The FA Community Shield with United.

Position: Defender
Caps: 13 (England U21s)
Profile: Jack is the son of Alan Cork, an FA Cup winner with Wimbledon. He has represented England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels and won the first of his 13 Under-21 caps as a substitute against Czech Republic in 2008. As a Chelsea player he had loan spells at Burnley and Coventry, amongst others, and was a Championship runner-up with his new club Saints last season.

RYAN GIGGS
Age 38
Club: Manchester United
Position: Forward
Caps: 64 (Wales)
Profile: A former winner of the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year Awards, Ryan has enjoyed a fantastic career at Manchester United. He made his Football League debut way back in 1990-91 and his honours with United now include 12 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions Leagues. For Wales he has notched 12 goals from the left wing.

AARON RAMSEY
Age 21
Club: Arsenal
Position: Midfielder
Caps: 21 (Wales)
Profile: Aaron has come up through the ranks with Wales, collecting 15 caps with the U17s and 12 with the Under-21s. He played for the latter when he was just 16. In 2008 he was the second youngest FA Cup Finalist, for Cardiff against Portsmouth, and made his senior international debut against Denmark. He also made a big-money move to Arsenal. Quite a year for the youngster!

DANNY ROSE
Age 22
Club: Tottenham Hotspur
Position: Midfielder
Caps: 21 (England U21s) Profile: Danny has had four seasons with the Under-21s, making his debut against Azerbaijan in 2009 and his most recent appearance here at the Riverside in February. One of his three goals beat Portugal before nearly 34,000 fans at Wembley. In his five years as a Spurs player he has featured in 13 Premier League matches and spent periods on loan at Watford, Peterborough and Bristol City.

Forwards

CRAIG BELLAMY
Age 32
Club: Liverpool
Position: Forward
Caps: 69 (Wales)
Profile: A very experienced striker, Craig made his debut for Wales as a substitute in a friendly against Jamaica in 1998 and his 19 goals include a famous winner against Italy in a Euro 2004 Qualifier in Cardiff in 2002. He has played for a number of top sides, including Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester City, and won the League Cup with Liverpool against his hometown club.
 
SCOTT SINCLAIR
Age 23
Club: Swansea City
Position: Forward
Caps: 7 (England U21s)
Profile: Scott has scored goals for England at four different levels – three for the U17s, three for the U18s, two for the U19s and one for the Under-21s. He was in Bristol Rovers’ first team at 15 and made just a handful of Premier League appearances over three seasons for Chelsea before helping the Swans to Championship play-off success with a sparkling Wembley hat-trick in 2011.

MARVIN SORDELL

Club: Bolton Wanderers
Position: Forward
Caps: 7 (England U21s)
Profile: Marvin featured in all of England’s Under-21s’ matches last season, making his debut as a substitute against Azerbaijan at his home ground of Watford and starting all of the other six internationals. He found the net against Israel and Iceland. Marvin had a loan spell at Tranmere before establishing himself at Vicarage Road and switched to Bolton in January of this year.
 
DANIEL STURRIDGE
Age 22
Club: Chelsea
Position: Forward
Caps: 2 (England)
Profile: Daniel made it into the senior team last season with substitute appearances against Sweden and Holland. He had scored for England at six different age levels with a total tally of 21. He has winners’ medals for the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. At Manchester City he became the only player to score in the Premier League, FA Cup and FA Youth Cup in the same season.
