Shrewsbury to host Manchester United in Cup fifth round

Sunday 31 Jan 2016
The Emirates FA Cup fifth round ties will take place between 19-22 February

Shrewsbury Town sprung arguably the biggest shock of The Emirates FA Cup fourth round with a 3-2 win over Championship side Sheffield Wednesday and their reward will be a visit of Manchester United in round five.

The League One club trailed Wednesday 2-1 with three minutes remaining of normal time, but triumphed and will now meet 11-time Cup winners United for the first time in their history.

Helping to conduct the draw was Ruud Guillt, who guided Chelsea to FA Cup glory in 1997.

Fifth Round draw

1. Chelsea v Man City
2. Reading v West Bromwich Albion
3. Watford v Leeds United
4. Shrewsbury v Man Utd
5. Blackburn v West Ham
6. Tottenham v Crystal Palace
7. Arsenal v Hull City
8. Bournemouth v Everton

And the Dutchman said: “I think they will be thrilled with this, because the crowd will love to have Man United there.

“It’s still a big club, so therefore it will be great.”

Chelsea, who won 5-1 at MK Dons on Sunday, were first out the hat and paired with Manchester City.

The pair have met twice in The FA Cup in the past four seasons, including the 2012-13 Semi-Final, with City winning on both occasions.

West Bromwich Albion will travel to Reading, after their penalty shoot-out victory over Peterborough United.

And West Ham United will travel to Blackburn Rovers after a thrilling replay win against Liverpool.

Eight-time FA Cup winners Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn at home to Crystal Palace, while holders Arsenal meet Hull City in the competition for a third consecutive season.

Everton’s victory at Carlisle United earns them a trip to Bournemouth for an all-Premier League affair, while Watford will play host to Leeds United.

The fifth round ties will take place across the weekend of 19-22 February and winning clubs will receive £180,000 from The FA prize fund.
