St. George’s Park Chairman David Sheepshanks believes the opening of a new outdoor leadership centre at the £105m complex will make the national football centre an even more attractive proposition for elite clubs, sports and businesses and help develop future generations of "winners".

The Burton-upon-Trent site has already hosted a number of professional clubs this summer including Norwich City, Stoke City and Steaua Bucharest and this week welcomed German side FSV Mainz for pre-season preparations. European giants Barcelona and Porto arrive at the 330-acre site next week.

Speaking at the launch of the leadership centre, which will offer clubs the opportunity to use the 40 foot climbing tower and a variety of high and low rope activities, Sheepshanks said: “At St. George’s Park we are committed to developing winners. Be it in sport, business, or our daily lives, we are challenged with barriers that prevent us from achieving our goals.

"This new outdoor leadership centre will help equip those who visit us with the decision making and delegation skills needed to succeed.

“Not only will the outdoor centre help develop winners with integral leadership skills, but it has everything in place to be able to help challenge whether a team’s commitment, trust and risk-taking meets the requirements of their role. It will help our clients learn both key individual and team building skills for every day working life.”

The centre, which also offers 15 different leadership and team exercises, an archery range and a laser combat zone, has been developed in partnership with Grahame Robb Associates, whose clients include HSBC and the London Business School, to develop high-performing individuals, teams and organisations.

St.George’s Park has hosted nearly 2,000 conferences for businesses since the facility opened in October 2012 and the new outdoor leadership centre will be used by both sporting and business clients staying at the site, with coaching courses and local organisations also expected to be regular users of the facility.
