Wenger opened the new stand at Boreham Wood last weekend
Teams in The FA Women’s Super League can look forward to playing in front of a new stand this season at Arsenal Ladies’ home in Boreham Wood.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was on hand to open the new West Stand at Meadow Park at the weekend prior to his side’s annual pre-season friendly.

And given that attendances for Arsenal Women’s games have risen to nearly 700 per game, fans will now be able to watch from the comfort of what is a “first-class facility” according to Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter.

Arsenal Ladies are the most successful English club

The new stand was made possible thanks to a Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF) grant of £241,000, which is funded with £6m each year by the Premier League, and replaced the previous stand which was made in the 1970s.

"It was a great honour to open Boreham Wood FC’s new West Stand," said Wenger.

"It is an excellent facility which will allow the club to continue to develop and will also be of great benefit to our Ladies and Academy sides, who play their home games at Meadow Park.

"I am very pleased that we were able to come together with Boreham Wood FC, the Football Stadia Improvement Fund and other funders to make this project a reality."

The FSIF is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower-league football grounds in both the professional and amateur game.

These improvements range from new football stands and turnstiles to floodlighting and improved provision for disabled supporters.

Additional project funding came from the club itself, Hertsmere Borough Council, a personal contribution from the club chairman and Arsenal FC.

Hunter added: "On behalf of our club I must thank Arsene Wenger for opening our new West Stand, it truly was a fitting way to mark the end of a project which has given Boreham Wood FC a first-class new facility.

"Special mentions must also go to the local Council, the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, the Football Conference League, the Women's Super League and Arsenal FC for turning a dream into reality."
