Under-20 squad revealed ahead of four-nation tournament

Friday 30 Sep 2016
England U20s began their season with a September double-header with Brazil

The England Under-20 squad for October’s games against the Netherlands, Germany and the USA has been named.

There is a first-ever international call-up for 18-year-old midfielder Ovie Ejaria, who made his debut for Liverpool earlier this month, while Chelsea’s Jake Clarke-Salter is included at under-20 level for the first time.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin retains his place after scoring on the U20s’ previous outing, while Dominic Solanke returns to the Young Lions fold after missing September’s fixtures, having been named in the Under-21 squad only to withdraw through injury.

The three fixtures form part of a four-nation tournament, which takes place between 5 October and 10 October.

The Young Lions face the Netherlands at Oldham Athletic’s SportsDirect.com Park on Wednesday 5 October, before taking on Germany at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield two days later. Their final game, again the USA, will be held at Rochdale’s Crown Oil Arena on Monday 10 October. All three games kick off at 7pm.

The Under-20s' assistant coach, Paul Williams, will take charge of the matches after head coach Aidy Boothroyd stepped up to oversee the Under-21s in Gareth Southgate's absence.

"It’s been great working with Aidy and the U20s this season, so to take on the team for these games over the next few months is a big honour and privilege for me," said former Nottingham Forest and Southampton coach Williams.

"Having worked with the players already this season and with some of them previously, it is a case of us continuing from where we left off last month and working to improve and prepare the lads for these games.

"We have a very talented group of players in the Under-20s this season, and it’s been fantastic to work with them so far. It’s an exciting time to be involved for both them as young footballers and us as staff members."
