Joe Gomez has completed his transfer from Charlton Athletic to Liverpool, the Premier League club has today confirmed.

The Under-19s international has signed a long-term contract with Brendan Rodgers' outfit.

He becomes the third England player to sign for the Reds this summer after Danny Ings and James Milner's earlier arrivals.

And the youngster, who was a key member of the England team that won the Under-17s European Championships in 2014, spoke of his delight at joining such an illustrious club.

Upon signing his contract with the club, Gomez told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's a dream come true. It's a bit surreal and it hasn't really hit me yet.

"But I'm buzzing and just excited to get started.

"The club has got great history and it's a great club, and one that I've always been following from when I was young.

"The style of football and the top players here was somewhere that I wanted to go and get better and learn, and play good football. It was an easy decision."

Gomez made 24 first-team appearances for Charlton in 2014-15, and impressed throughout as he made an assured step up to senior football.

Equally at home in the centre of defence or at full-back, Gomez played for Sean O'Driscoll's England U19s on three occasions during 2014-15.

He made his England debut for the Under-16s against Wales in November 2012, and has appeared for Three Lions development sides on 25 occasions.
