England manager Roy Hodgson says Harry Kane “fully deserves” his first call-up to the senior squad.

The Tottenham striker has scored 24 goals so far this season and is the highest-scoring Englishman in the Premier League.

Hodgson is looking forward to working with Kane and admits it was an easy decision to select the 21-year-old for the upcoming internationals against Lithuania and Italy.

“We’re delighted to welcome him into the fold and help him establish himself,” said Hodgson.

“The whole country is excited [about Kane]. His rise has been fantastic. Since he’s broken into the Tottenham team he’s done so well.

“It would have been much more of a surprise had he not been selected than him being selected.

"He’s young, like a lot of the other players in the squad who’ve been given the chance to establish themselves. We hope that’s going to happen for Harry as well.

“What he can do on the football field is clear for all to see. He deserves his chance and we’re happy he’s with us."
