In a season packed full of highs, Harry Kane says scoring on his England debut will forever be his proudest memory.

Kane netted within 80 seconds of coming on as a second-half substitute against Lithuania in March – and the newly crowned PFA Young Player of the Year says it was a night he will remember forever.

"Making my England debut and getting that goal - it was a very proud moment. It made it even more special," he told Sky Sports when asked what his favourite memory of the season has been.

"For a footballer, to represent their country is the pinnacle, and I'm very proud. I was able to do that and it was a moment I won't forget."

The 21-year-old beat off competition from Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard, David De Gea, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling to claim the PFA award at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on Sunday night.

And the striker could not hide his delight after winning the prestigious gong.

"It is amazing," he added. "It is a very proud moment for myself and my family – hopefully the first of many to come.

Harry Kane has scored 30 goals in 47 appearances for Spurs this season

"I have got to keep working hard, but to be recognised by your fellow players is something special and it is a night I won’t forget.

"It is incredible, an incredible feeling."

Asked to sum up his season in one word, he replied simply: "Unreal."

However, a year ago it was a very different story for the England youngster.

He was struggling to secure a regular starting berth for Spurs, and had scored just four goals in 19 appearances.

“I have managed to ride the wave and the season has got better and better”

Fast-forward 12 months and Kane is now one of the first names on the Tottenham team-sheet.

He has become the first player since Gary Lineker to score 30 goals in a season for the Lilywhites.

And despite the relatively slow start to his Spurs career, Kane insists he always had confidence in his ability, and wants to continue his upward trajectory next season.

"A lot has changed since then but I have always believed in my ability and have been waiting for a chance to express myself," he added.

"I didn't think it would go as quickly as it has done but I have managed to ride the wave and the season has got better and better.

"I got the opportunity with the gaffer and I have really enjoyed my season so far – I have taken my chance and this is why we are here."
