Louis Reed scored twice against his former club to help Mansfield Town shock Sheffield United 4-3 in a thrilling Emirates FA Cup third round tie.

Reed scored twice before the break before Lucas Akins and Rhys Oates put the Stags 4-1 up before the hour mark, after Gustavo Hamer had earlier equalised.

The Blades fought back through Patrick Bamford and a Nathan Moriah-Welsh own goal to set up a grandstand finish but the League One side held on to seal a place in the fourth round at the expense of Championship opposition.

Reed came through the youth system at Bramall Lane but came back to bite his former employers with two stunning strikes from outside the box, either side of Hamer’s equally impressive equaliser.

Akins and Oates added to the lead and they required the three-goal cushion, as the Blades fought back but were unable to fully overturn a stubborn Stags defence who held on for a famous win.

Elsewhere, 13-time champions Manchester United were beaten 2-1 at home by Brighton & Hove Albion.

Brajan Gruda gave the Seagulls the perfect start with the opener after just 12 minutes before former United striker Danny Welbeck doubled the lead in the second half.

Benjamin Sesko pulled one back late on to give United hope of sending the game to extra time but the visitors held on to progress, as youngster Shea Lacey saw red at the death.

Gabriel Martinelli scored a hat-trick as Arsenal survived an early scare to beat Portsmouth 4-1 at Fratton Park.

Colby Bishop put the 2008 champions ahead after just three minutes but that lead was quickly eliminated when Andre Dozzell turned into his own net five minutes later.

Martinelli put the Gunners ahead on 25 minutes as he nodded home Noni Madueke’s corner. Madueke had a chance to make it 3-1 before the break but put his penalty wide of the target.

It mattered little, as Martinelli scored twice after the break to take home the match ball and send the competition’s most-successful side through to the fourth round.

Fellow Premier League side Leeds United also came from behind, as a four-minute double salvo helped them down Derby County 3-1.

Ben Brereton Diaz put the Rams ahead in the first half after Joel Piroe had missed a penalty for the visitors before quickfire goals from Wilfried Gnonto and Ao

Tanaka turned the tie on its head on the hour. James Justin wrapped up victory in added time.

Norwich City were comprehensive 5-1 winners over Walsall, as Jovon Makama netted a hat-trick at Carrow Road.

West Ham United’s new striker Valentin Castellanos grabbed his first goal for the Hammers to help them past Queens Park Rangers 2-1 after extra-time.

Rangers’ Richard Kone cancelled out Crysencio Summerville’s opener and the tie looked destined for penalties until Castellanos headed home the winner eight minutes into extra time.

Dillon Phillips was the hero for Hull City, as he saved two penalties to help the Tigers past Blackburn Rovers 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in Yorkshire.

West Bromwich Albion also got past a fellow Championship rival with the help of spot kicks, as they beat Swansea City 6-5 after an entertaining 2-2 draw in south Wales.

Swansea’s Ji-Sung Eom broke the deadlock just after the break before Josh Maja quickly restored parity.

Jed Wallace put the Baggies ahead in extra time only for Zeidane Inoussa to equalise four minutes later, with 18-year-old Oliver Bostock ultimately netting the decisive penalty.
