Orient, Liverpool Feds and Enfield reach Vitality Women's FA Cup first round proper

Sunday 01 Nov 2020

Goals from Hayley Barton, Kate Bradley, Allison McCann and Egle Trezzi booked Leyton Orient’s place in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup first round proper as they saw off Eastbourne Town 4-1.

The FA Women's National League Division One South East side took an early lead when good interplay between Claudia Zahui and Nyara Denny saw Barton presented with a simple finish.

And the visitors were 2-0 up when centre back Bradley smashed home in the box.

The home side did get one back, though, when Kellie Larkin fired home with a penalty after Kate Kerr’s foul led the referee to point to the spot.

But, McCann restored Orient’s two goal advantage with another penalty before Trezzi fired into an empty net to send Chris Brayford’s side into the next round.

Meanwhile, Liverpool Feds booked a first round date with local rivals FC United of Manchester as they beat Fleetwood Town Wrens 3-0.

An Erin Slade double saw the Division One North side through to a comfortable victory, while Chloe Fisher also found the net for Leanne Duffy’s team.

Elsewhere, Enfield Town came from behind thanks to Beau Parker’s double to also book their place in the first round after they saw off Luton Town 2-1.

Nikki Baker’s Luton took the lead inside the opening 15 minutes when a handball was given in the penalty area, and Erica Byron slotted the resulting penalty home.

Enfield pushed and pushed for an equaliser and eventually got it when great link up play between Parker and Courtney Cook resulted in Parker side footing past the goalkeeper.

And with half an hour to go Parker had her second, Enfield’s winner, as she neatly finished after a brilliant cross from Mollie Kmita.

Last month, Ruby Meeson, Amber Lawrence and Courteney Murphy propelled Stourbridge into the Vitality Women’s FA Cup first round proper for the first time in their history after a memorable 3-0 victory over Crusaders.

Kaydee King was the hero for Harlow Town as they toppled Royston Town 4-2 on penalties after a helter-skelter 3-3 draw in Essex.

Goals from Taylor Davis, Jess Jennings, Lia Lewis and Laura Morris helped Wem Town win a 4-3 thriller against Coventry Sphinx.

Other high-scoring affairs included Chester-le-Street Town’s 3-2 win over Durham Cestria and Barnsley’s 4-1 triumph over Leeds United, while FC United of Manchester edged past Chorley 2-1 in the battle of the north-west.

Brighouse Town eased past Merseyrail 3-0 on home soil while there were also comfortable victories for Exeter City and Southampton over AEK Boco and Ilminster Town respectively.

Actonians beat Worthing 4-0, Cheltenham Town toppled Portishead Town 3-1 while there was also a convincing 3-0 victory for Solihull Moors over Sporting Khalsa.

And it was Ipswich Town and Newcastle United who came out on top in two of the day’s most hotly-contested derby fixtures, beating Norwich City and Sunderland West End respectively to cap an absorbing day of third round qualifying action.
