England's Futsal squad drew 1-1 with Israel in their opening 2022 UEFA Futsal EURO preliminary qualifier.

Michael Skubala's side were on top for much of the game, but it was Israel – who lost 4-1 to hosts Moldova on Thursday evening – that took the lead.

The opener from Shachar Lavie came after a goalless first half and left England with just under seven minutes to find themselves an equaliser.

Skubala's side responded by using Nathan Davis as a fly goalkeeper and the switch paid off just three minutes later, as Richard Ward netted the equaliser.

Ward then hit the post in the closing stages as the Futsal Lions pressed for a winner, but Israel were able to hold on for a share of the spoils.

The draw means Skubala's side will need to beat Moldova, who are ranked five places higher than England in the world rankings, in Saturday's final qualifier to finish top of Group H.

The new format for the 2022 finals means the nine group runners-up and five best third-placed teams from the preliminary round will enter a qualifying play-off stage in April.
