The Emirates FA Cup 2020-21 rules have been updated ahead of the third round proper

The Emirates FA Cup rulebook for the 2020-21 season has been updated ahead of our third round proper ties in January.

Most notable is that clubs are now able to name a maximum of nine substitutes of which five may be used.

Teams are permitted a maximum of three opportunities (excluding half time) to make substitutions during normal time, and with the ability to carry over any unused substitutes and make a further substitution should the tie progress to extra time.

Fans in the UK will be able to watch all 32 Emirates FA Cup third round ties, either through our broadcast partners BBC and BT Sport and their digital channels or through The FA Player.

The third round kicks-off on Friday 8 January, when Aston Villa face Liverpool live on BT Sport and Wolverhampton Wanderers host Crystal Palace at Molineux on BT Sport Extra 2.

More ties take place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January before the schedule is rounded off on Monday 11 January when Stockport County host West Ham United, also live on BT Sport 1.
