Three Lions' Harry Kane and Harry Winks assess England's win over Kosovo in Pristina

England manager Gareth Southgate saw his side end their qualifying campaign with a win in Kosovo

England pair, Harrys Kane and Winks, both had double reason to celebrate in Kosovo on Sunday.

The Tottenham Hotspur duo scored a goal apiece as the Three Lions ended their UEFA EURO 2020 qualification campaign with a 4-0 win.

Winks, playing in a more advanced midfield role than usual, opened the scoring in Pristina with his first senior England goal, before captain Kane took his tally to 12 goals in eight games with a second-half strike.

And the duo both spoke after the match to provide their reflections on the victory.

“It’s a dream come true to score my first goal,” admitted Winks.

“It’s something I never thought would happen, but to score in the way we did and after how we played was the main thing for me.

“I’ve had to play in both positions, that pivot role if needed but also the eight if needed.

“I spoke to the manager before the game and he told me what he wanted from the role, so I tried my best to deliver that.

“It’s hard to say which I prefer, but as long as I’m playing for England, that’s all that matters.”

Kane added: “It was a difficult game on a difficult pitch and obviously they were up for it.

“We got it right, we went 1-0 up and got through a few spells when they had a bit of pressure, but we soaked it up and towards the end of the game, when the spaces started opening up, we were clinical.

“As a striker, I want to be scoring goals and winning games. I love scoring so, as any striker does, so hopefully I can keep that going until next summer.”

Despite the impressive record in qualifying, in which they scored a total of 37 goals in the eight games, a qualifying record for England, both players admit there’s plenty of work to be done going into the new year.

“There’s always things to improve on, we gave away a few sloppy chances and come the Euros, when we play stronger opposition, they might punish us,” said Winks.

“It’s something we’re aware of, but I thought we were excellent today and ruthless.”

“We know we could’ve improved on a few things,” added Kane.

“But next summer, we need to make sure we’re on it.”
