The FA and EFL have confirmed the allocation of this season’s Emirates FA Cup divisional progress prize fund.

Following the weekend’s Emirates FA Cup quarter finals, the £250,000 progress prize – made to the EFL club(s) from each division that go furthest in the competition – has been allocated to the following five clubs:

  • EFL Championship – Millwall and Swansea City*
  • EFL League One – AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster Rovers**
  • EFL League Two – Newport County

The funds were confirmed by The FA’s professional game board on Wednesday following the elimination of the final two EFL clubs from the quarter final stage.

The £750,00 total has been made partly available from the proceeds of The FA’s new international broadcasting agreements. In addition to the divisional progress prize, this season’s competition’s prize fund has doubled to £30.2m.

Andy Ambler, The FA’s director of professional game relations, said: “EFL clubs have provided some magnificent moments in this season’s competition and we are delighted to provide five clubs with this financial reward.

“We hope that this divisional progress prize, alongside the other gains the competition has provided them, will be a welcome financial boost for the clubs.”

Guy Price, Newport County's chief operating officer, added: “The Emirates FA Cup provided our players, fans and staff and people of Newport memories that will last a lifetime but it has also transformed the club’s finances.

“Our run in the competition did not only bring the entire city together, but it epitomised what the Emirates FA Cup is all about: how important the underdog is, and how you can always fight back against the odds.

“We are proud and delighted to receive the divisional progress fund for League Two and the payment of £250,000, alongside the broadcast and commercial fees that will positively impact the club and the community for years to come.”

Four clubs remain in the Emirates FA Cup and the semi-finals take place at Wembley Stadium over the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April.
