We hear from Trent Alexander-Arnold as he joins England after a memorable few days

After helping Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League last weekend, England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold linked up with the Three Lions squad at St. George's Park on Tuesday ahead of the Nations League Finals. We managed to catch him before the trip to Portugal...

Welcome to the camp, Trent! How are you feeling?

I’m obviously still on a massive high, it's a dream come true and it's something that you always want to do. You never think that it could actually be possible, but to have a major trophy under the belt now is massive and hopefully we'll be able to push on for club and country and get some more.

There’s certainly the momentum of a good season for so many of the players in the squad heading to Portugal…

If you look at everyone in the squad, in one way or another, they've got something to be proud of this season. Whether it’s Manchester City, who have won the vast majority of trophies, or us winning the trophy the other night or the Tottenham players who’ve also had an incredible season and have pushed everyone so far. The whole squad has had a really good season altogether and I'm sure we'll be looking to top it off over the next week and hopefully we'll leave Portugal with another trophy.

What would it mean to end the season with a trophy for club and country?

Massive. It would be a dream come true. You don't expect to be in these situations and you never know if you ever will be again, so I think for now I'm trying to soak it up, give everything that I can and hopefully that will be achieved in the next few days.

Liverpool trio Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson reported for England duty on Tuesday morning

Of course, you’ll be coming up against your Anfield team-mates Virgil and Wijnaldum and the Dutch...

It’s an incredibly tough game. Even if I didn't know them both personally, you'd still know that the Netherlands are coming back to where they once were. They play some really good football, they've got a really good squad, really young and exciting. It's a bit similar to us in the terms of the way they are going about things and it's exciting to see. We're excited to play against them, we know it's going to be tough and they've got many world-class players. I'm sure they'll push us all the way. We know that we're playing excellent stuff as well and if we can get it right on the night then I'm sure we'll come out on top.

Have any of you said anything to each other?

Without even saying too much, we know it's going to be one of those where first day of pre-season you're going to be in and either be smiling or you'll be on the end of a bit of banter. It's obviously a really big game for us and it's bigger with the fact we'll probably be playing against players that we play with every week.

How was the reception when you arrived in camp?

Unbelievable. The reception has been unbelievable. They're really happy for us and positive. For the Tottenham lads it must be tough for them, but they've come and congratulated us and were one of the first to do it. Even if it was the other way round you have to put what happened with our clubs to one side and focus on winning something for your country. We're a team now, a few days ago we weren't, but now we are so we need to recognise that and if we pull together for the same aim then we've got a great chance of reaching where we want.
