What better cure for a hangover than taking in a five-goal Emirates FA Cup feast on a crisp Sunday afternoon?

After enjoying a few beers and a few bets at Doncaster races the day before, Paul Taylor joined his brother-in-law Andy Leslie and Andy’s dad Pete as they continued their maiden Road to Wembley at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena.

League One Fleetwood Town were the visitors for the first round tie and Joey Barton’s side proved too strong for the Reds, running out 4-1 victors.

It was Taylor’s SEVENTH Emirates FA Cup tie so far this season, having started out in the extra preliminary round back in August.

“A cold Sunday morning was just what I needed after a day at the races,” he quipped.

“My dad was unavailable for this one so it was left to me, Andy and his dad to head to the Impact Arena.

“Luckily it was only an hour-long trip to Alfreton but having been out all day on the Saturday, the sleep on the way there was much needed, although I did miss out on the usual stop-off for a pre-game KFC!

“Fleetwood played a full strength side and it showed. There was no hint of a shock either as they were 3-0 up after an hour, and although Alfreton had a late push they eventually bowed out. Amazingly, one of my old Sunday League opponents was in goal for Fleetwood, Alex Cairns, who was born in Doncaster.

“The early kick-off time meant I was able to get back to Doncaster just in time to resume a lads’ weekend, watching the Chelsea-Everton game and then the Manchester derby in the pub with a few cold ones.

“Ninety minutes on the terraces and a few beers sorted me right out!”

Taylor continued: “It’s great that The FA Cup is well under way now and there’s only one more round until the big boys join in.

“Before that, though, we’re really looking forward to the second round tie between Guiseley and Fleetwood.

“I expect Fleetwood will bring a full side and Guiseley will be after another Cup shock after their first round win over Cambridge.

“Hopefully it will be another good game and an even better atmosphere.”

The winners of Guiseley v Fleetwood Town will be in the hat for Monday's third round draw.
