Everton reached the SSE Women's FA Cup semi-finals by beating Durham

Everton Ladies booked their place in the semi-finals of the SSE Women’s FA Cup with a resounding 6-1 victory over Durham Women at New Ferens Park.

Goals from Olivia Chance, Danielle Turner and Jodie Brett added to a Courtney Sweetman-Kirk hat-trick as the Toffees proved too strong for the WSL 2 side and booked a last-four clash with Arsenal.

Sweetman-Kirk opened the scoring, tucking away a rebound after Durham goalkeeper Helen Alderson could only parry Chance’s strike.

Despite a spirited showing, Durham were the architects of their own downfall when a lapse of concentration from Sarah Wilson allowed Turner to race clear and set up Chance for 2-0.

Durham captain Wilson had a chance to redeem herself on the stroke of half-time, but contrived to miss from point-blank range after Beth Hepple’s free-kick had struck the post.

A flurry of second-half goals ended Durham’s hopes. Sweetman-Kirk made it 3-0 as she planted a header past Alderson before Turner added another, released on the left by Chance and driving a low and hard shot into the bottom corner.

Quick exchanges in midfield between Brett and Mollie Green then allowed Chloe Kelly to find space and put Sweetman-Kirk through for her hat-trick as she rounded Alderson.

Durham grabbed a consolation goal that their performance deserved when Sarah Robson stabbed home from close range following a scramble in the box from a corner.

But Everton snatched a sixth goal before the end as Turner, embarking on another marauding run, set up Brett to head in and cap off an emphatic 6-1 scoreline.

This season’s Final takes place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 5 May.
