I think it was a good test for us. We came away from home and controlled the game, really.

We used the ball really well, especially in the first 60-65 minutes. Maybe a little more quality in the final third was required, but I’m really pleased with the way we played up until that point and defensively, we looked pretty solid.

We were due to have VAR here and there might have been a couple of penalty calls and I think the challenge on Danny Rose at the start looked suspect, but actually it was better for us to have the 11 v 11 test.

I thought we showed really good play up until that last final finish and final ball.

The back three were excellent. Along with the goalkeeper, they were able to play from the back and they played with real composure.

We’re going to have to get used to them taking risks in those areas of the pitch because that’s how we want to play, so I thought they played with intelligence but also composure.

The defenders and goalkeeper are all capable – really capable – of using the ball well and we were able to work the game out tactically to make sure we got into areas of the pitch to keep it higher up.

We’ve still got lots to work on and we can get better, and there’s more things we want to look at on Tuesday, but it was a really good exercise today.

I’m delighted for Jesse – he’s a player we’ve worked with for three or four years, in the U21s as well. This season, he’s starting to finish the chances and he’s a good player.

Jordan Pickford was also excellent. I’m really pleased for him – he played as we know he can. You saw all the attributes that he had and most importantly, he was tidy with his goalkeeping.

We know what he can do with his feet but he was tidy with his goalkeeping and generally, good decision-making.

It’s [the winning goal] is up there. It’s always an honour to represent your country but to score as well is a massive bonus.

The ball took a bit of time to drop, so I had to concentrate on it and kind of give the keeper the eyes.

But when you work hard, you get the rewards and from now on, I’ll carry on working hard and see where it gets me.

I thought, for the majority of the game, we were in control.

In the first half, I thought we dominated with the ball and possibly could have created a little bit more, but I thought the first half was a solid performance.

In the second half, they changed the formation a little bit to try and stop us from playing a little bit but I still felt that we moved the ball well, created some good chances and when the ball jumped to Jesse, I knew he’d score.

First and foremost, the three at the back...I think we looked solid with that shape and it gives licence to, when we get the ball, the likes Jesse and Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain], who were picking up some brilliant positions, to get on the half-turn and cause them some problems, with Raheem in behind as well - I thought they found it difficult to handle that.
